The Extend feature in Powtoon Studio lets you continue a slide's scene into a new slide, carrying your objects forward without interrupting the flow. The maximum slide length is determined by your subscription plan — for example, a Free plan allows a maximum total Powtoon length of 3 minutes, so no single slide can exceed that limit.
Note: You can build an entire Powtoon on one slide or spread it across multiple shorter slides — the Extend feature works in either approach.
Before you begin
Two conditions must be met before you extend a slide:
- You must be working in Create mode in Powtoon Studio. You cannot extend a slide in Edit mode.
- Every object you want to carry into the next slide must have its endpoint positioned exactly at the end of the slide on the timeline. If there is any gap between an object's duration bar and the end of the slide, that object will not extend into the new slide.
How to extend a slide
- Open your Powtoon in Powtoon Studio and confirm you are in Create mode. The mode selector appears at the top of the editor.
► If you are in Edit mode, switch to Create mode before continuing. - In the slide panel on the left, select the thumbnail of the slide you want to extend.
- Check the timeline at the bottom of the stage. Confirm that the endpoint of every object you want to carry forward is aligned exactly with the end of the slide.
► In the example described in the original article, a character and a sun element both play until the final frame of the slide. Any object with a gap before the slide end will not be extended. - Hover over the slide thumbnail in the slide panel. Three dots appear in the bottom-right corner of the thumbnail. Click the three dots to open the slide menu.
► Alternatively, right-click the slide thumbnail directly to open the same menu. - Click Extend (or select Extend Slide from the right-click menu).
A new slide is added immediately after the slide you extended. By default, the carried-over objects play for 1 second on the new slide. You can adjust this duration and make any additional edits to the new slide.
After extending a slide
Do not add a transition between the original slide and the new extended slide. A transition will interrupt the continuity of the scene.
Note: The new slide defaults to 1 second in duration. Extend it further using the same Extend process, or drag the slide endpoint on the timeline to set a custom length.
