When you place multiple objects on a slide, the grid overlay helps you align them symmetrically and consistently. This article explains how to turn on the grid and use it to position objects on the stage.
Before you start
The grid is available in Powtoon Studio. No specific plan requirement applies — the grid toggle is accessible to all users in the editor.
How to turn on the grid
- Open your Powtoon in Powtoon Studio.
- At the top of the editor, locate the grid toggle switch. By default, the grid is switched off.
- Toggle the switch to the right to turn the grid on. The grid overlay appears on the stage immediately.
What the grid looks like
When the grid is active, the stage displays a 16-block-wide by 9-block-tall overlay. Vertical and horizontal guide lines intersect at the center of the slide, giving you a clear reference point for the middle of the stage.
How to position objects using the grid
- Add the objects you want to align to the slide.
- Drag each object so that it lines up with a grid line or intersection point that matches your intended layout.
- ► For example, to align two characters at the same height, drag both so their feet rest on the same horizontal grid line.
- ► To place objects symmetrically around the center, position each one the same number of blocks to the left or right of the center intersection — for example, one block from center on each side.
- Once your objects are positioned, toggle the grid switch back to the left to hide the overlay if you prefer a clean view of the stage.
Notes
Note: The grid is a visual guide only — it does not snap objects automatically. You position objects manually using the grid lines as a reference.
Note: The grid overlay does not appear in your exported Powtoon. It is visible only while editing in Powtoon Studio.
