Slow or laggy performance in Powtoon Studio is usually caused by browser settings, cached data, or extensions interfering with the editor. Work through the steps below in order, testing after each one to see whether performance improves.
Before you begin
These steps apply to browser-based use of Powtoon Studio. Powtoon Studio is supported on Google Chrome. If you are using a different browser, switch to Chrome before continuing.
Steps to fix slow performance in Powtoon Studio
- Open Powtoon Studio in Google Chrome. If you are already in Chrome, continue to the next step.
- Check that Chrome is up to date. Go to
chrome://help/in your address bar. Chrome will check for updates automatically and prompt you to relaunch if an update is available. Install any pending update, then reopen Powtoon Studio. - Clear your browser cache. Cached data can cause performance issues over time. Follow the steps in the article Clearing the Chrome Browser Cache to clear your cache, then reload Powtoon Studio.
► After clearing the cache, sign back in to your Powtoon account if prompted. - Enable cookies in Chrome. Powtoon Studio requires cookies to function correctly. If cookies are blocked, performance and functionality can degrade. Follow the steps in the article Enabling Cookies in the Chrome Browser to confirm cookies are enabled.
- Switch Chrome to Guest mode. Guest mode disables all extensions and uses a clean browser profile, which helps identify whether an installed extension is causing the slowdown. Follow the steps in the article How do I switch to Guest mode in Google Chrome? to open a Guest mode window, then open Powtoon Studio and test performance.
► If performance improves in Guest mode, a Chrome extension is likely the cause. Try disabling your extensions one at a time in your regular Chrome profile to identify the one responsible. - Test Powtoon Studio again. If performance has improved after any of the steps above, continue working normally. If Powtoon Studio is still slow after completing all steps, move on to the escalation section below.
If Powtoon Studio is still slow
If none of the steps above resolves the slow performance in Powtoon Studio, the issue may be specific to your account or environment and will need a closer look. Our Customer Support Team is at your service 24/7. When you reach out, include the following to help speed up the review:
- A description of when the slowness occurs (for example, on a specific Powtoon, during export, or on every Powtoon)
- Your Chrome version (found at
chrome://help/) - Any error messages you see in the editor
- A screen recording or screenshots of the issue, if possible
Note: These steps address browser-based performance only. If you are experiencing issues specifically with exporting your Powtoon, see the article Troubleshooting exports for export-specific guidance.
