A media frame is a shaped container that holds an image, video, or animated GIF inside it. A common example is a computer screen frame used to display a screenshot or a short clip. You can add a media frame from scratch or apply one to an image or video that is already on the stage.
Before you start: You must be working in Create mode inside Powtoon Studio to add or edit media frames.

Adding an image to a media frame
Use these steps to place a new media frame on the stage and fill it with an image from your library.
- Open the Shapes tab in the left panel, then select Media Frames.
- Browse the available frames. A media frame is identified by a + sign displayed on its thumbnail — this distinguishes it from a regular decorative shape.
- Select the frame you want. The frame is added to the stage.
- Click the + (add image) icon that appears on the frame on the stage.
- Browse the image library and select the image you want to display inside the frame.
► The image is automatically cropped to fit the shape and size of the frame.
Adding a video to a media frame
Use these steps to place a new media frame on the stage and fill it with a video from your library.
- Open the Shapes tab in the left panel, then select Media Frames.
- Browse the available frames. A media frame is identified by a + sign on its thumbnail.
- Select the frame you want. The frame is added to the stage.
- Click the + (add video) icon that appears on the frame on the stage.
- The My Video tab opens. Select the video you want to display inside the frame.
Note: If the video you select is longer than the current slide duration, a pop-up appears asking you to choose one of two options:
- Extend Length — extends the slide duration to match the full length of the video.
- Trim Video — trims the video to fit the existing slide duration.
Wrapping a frame around an existing image or video
If you have already placed an image or video on the stage, you can apply a media frame around it without starting over.
- Select the image or video on the stage, then click the frame icon that appears in the object toolbar.
- Click Add Frame. The media frame library opens on the right side of Powtoon Studio.
- Select the frame you want. Your image or video is placed inside the selected frame immediately.
Note: You can also display an animated GIF inside a media frame using the same steps as adding an image. The GIF will animate when your Powtoon plays.
