Powtoon has two types of characters: non-editable characters and editable characters. Non-editable characters support pose changes only. Editable characters — including those built with the Character Builder — support both pose and facial expression changes. This article walks you through changing a character's pose for each type.

Changing the pose of a non-editable character
Non-editable characters support pose changes only. To change the pose of a non-editable character:
- On the stage, select the character whose pose you want to change.
- Click Pose in the toolbar that appears above the selected character. A panel showing the available poses will open.
- Select the pose you want to apply. The character's pose updates immediately on the stage.
Note: Non-editable characters do not have an Expression option. Only the pose can be changed for this character type.
Changing the pose and expression of an editable character
Editable characters — including those created or customized with the Character Builder — support both pose and facial expression changes. The pose panel for editable characters is divided into two sections: Pose and Expression.
To change the pose or expression of an editable character:
- On the stage, select the character whose pose or expression you want to change.
- Click Pose in the toolbar that appears above the selected character. A panel showing both pose and expression options will open.
- Select a new pose, a new expression, or both. The character updates on the stage as you make each selection.
Note: If you want to customize an editable character's appearance beyond pose and expression — such as changing clothing, skin tone, or accessories — use the Character Builder. See the Character Builder article for more information.
