What gets translated?
When you run an AI translation, all text and AI voice-overs in your Powtoon are translated into the target language. The translation produces a new copy of the Powtoon — your original is not changed.
Translating your Powtoon with AI
Each language you translate into costs 22 AI Credits. You can select multiple languages in a single translation run, and a separate translated copy is created for each language.
- On your My Powtoons page, locate the Powtoon you want to translate and click the three vertical dots (⋮) on its thumbnail.
- Hover over Translate in the menu, then click Translate Powtoon AI.
- Select one or more target languages from the list.
► You can select multiple languages at this step. Each language costs 22 AI Credits and produces its own translated copy. - Choose whether to download a translation file. The translation file is an .xlsx spreadsheet containing all translated text. You can use it later to review or edit the translation without opening Powtoon Studio.
- Click Translate to start the process.
The translation process begins immediately. Processing time depends on the number of languages selected and may take a few minutes. When each translation is complete, a notification appears in your Workspace.
Each translated Powtoon appears on your My Powtoons page with a translated icon on its thumbnail. Hover over the icon to see which language it was translated into.
Modifying a translated Powtoon using a translation file (text only)
If you want to adjust the translated text without opening Powtoon Studio, you can edit the translation file and import it back into the same Powtoon. This updates the text in the existing translated Powtoon.
Note: You can only import a translation file into a Powtoon that has not had additional text added or other edits made to it after translation. If the Powtoon has been edited, the import will fail.
- Open the translation .xlsx file on your computer.
- Edit the text in the Target Language column, then save the file.
- On your My Powtoons page, locate the translated Powtoon and click the three vertical dots (⋮) on its thumbnail.
► Make sure you select the correct translated Powtoon. Importing a translation file into the wrong Powtoon will produce an error. - Hover over Translate in the menu, then click Import Translation File.
- Select the edited translation file and click Import translation.
The text in the translated Powtoon updates to match the edited translation file.
Importing a translation file to create a new Powtoon (text only)
If you have a completed translation file — for example, one returned by a human translator — you can import it to create a new Powtoon in the translated language. Your original Powtoon is not affected.
- On your My Powtoons page, click Import on the left side of the page.
- Click Import Translation File.
- Add the translation .xlsx file and click Create new Powtoon.
The translated Powtoon is added as a new item on your My Powtoons page.
Downloading a translation file
You can download a translation file at any time after a Powtoon has been translated — for example, if you skipped the download during translation or need a fresh copy.
Note: This option is only available for Powtoons that have already been translated using AI Translations.
- On your My Powtoons page, locate the translated Powtoon and click the three vertical dots (⋮) on its thumbnail.
- Hover over Translate in the menu, then click Download translation file.
The translation .xlsx file downloads automatically and is saved to your computer.

With Poutunes automatic AI translation feature, you'll be able to translate your video into different languages and deliver your message at a global reach within seconds. In this tutorial, we are going to translate this entire Poutune into Spanish. Welcome to a brief overview of our workplace health and safety policy. On your workspace, locate the Poutune that you want to translate on the right-hand side, below your Poutunes. If the Poutune was not saved recently, you will need to click View All to see all your content. Click the three dots button by the Poutune, select Translate, and click Translate Poutune with the AI badge in it. Select the language from the drop-down menu, and click Translate, below. Within seconds, you should then get a duplicated copy of the Poutune with everything translated in it, the on-screen texts, captions, and the text-to-speech voiceovers. Welcome to a brief overview of our health and safety policy. The automatic translation supports over 180 languages, and you may translate your Poutune into multiple languages all at the same time. The voiceovers uploaded into the AI avatars would also be translated. You will then be required to regenerate the lip sync on them. Welcome to a brief overview of our health and safety policy.
