What is Collaboration?

Collaboration lets you invite other people to work on a Powtoon with you. Any Powtoon user can share a Powtoon for collaboration — no specific plan is required.

How collaboration works

When you share a Powtoon with someone, they can open and edit it while they have access. A few rules govern how collaboration works:

• Any user can share a Powtoon for collaboration.
• You can share a Powtoon with someone who does not yet have a Powtoon account, but they must create a free account before they can open it.
• Only one person can edit a Powtoon at a time. If another collaborator is already editing in Powtoon Studio, wait until they leave before you begin.
• Only the original creator of the Powtoon can Export it. Collaborators can edit, but cannot publish or download the final file.

How to set up collaboration

1. Share the Powtoon with the people you want to collaborate with. See Share a Powtoon for step-by-step instructions.
2. If a collaborator does not yet have a Powtoon account, ask them to create one before they try to open the Powtoon.
3. Coordinate with your collaborators so only one person edits at a time. If someone else is already in Powtoon Studio, wait until they exit before you start editing.
4. When collaboration is complete, remove access for individual collaborators or for everyone at once. See Un-Share a Powtoon for instructions.

What collaborators can and cannot do

Understanding the boundaries of collaboration helps you manage your team's work effectively.

• Collaborators can open and edit the Powtoon for as long as they have access.
• Collaborators cannot Export the Powtoon — that action is reserved for the original creator.
• Collaborators invited from outside Powtoon must create an account before their access takes effect.
• Un-sharing the Powtoon removes access immediately for the selected person or for all collaborators, depending on which option you choose.

Note: Only one person can edit a Powtoon at a time. If two people attempt to edit simultaneously, the second person to open Powtoon Studio may overwrite the first person's unsaved changes.
