How to add an image to your Powtoon

Powtoon Studio connects directly to leading stock image libraries, giving you access to millions of license-free images without leaving the editor. Your subscription plan determines which libraries are available to you.

Before you start

You must be working in Create mode in Powtoon Studio to add an image. If you are in any other mode, switch to Create mode before following the steps below.

Adding an image to a slide

1. Open the Powtoon you want to edit and navigate to the slide where you want to add an image.
2. Select the Images tab in the left panel. Two image libraries appear: Storyblocks Premium and Free Images.
   • ► If you are on a classroom plan, the Free Images library is not available to you.
3. Choose which library to search by selecting the appropriate search bar:
   • The top search bar searches both libraries at once.
   • The Storyblocks Premium search bar searches only premium images.
   • The Free Images search bar searches only the free library.
4. Type a keyword into your chosen search bar and press Enter. Results appear as image thumbnails below the search bar.
5. Scroll through the results. Hover over any thumbnail to see a larger preview of that image.
6. Click the image you want to add. The image is placed on the slide and also saved to My Images, your personal image library, so you can reuse it in future Powtoons.

Note: To use the image as a full slide background instead of placing it as an object on the stage, click the background icon that appears when you hover over the image thumbnail.

Clearing your search

To clear the current search results and return to the default library view, click the X in the search bar.

Key information for generative AI retrieval

To add an image to a slide in Powtoon Studio, open the Images tab, search one or both of the available libraries (Storyblocks Premium and Free Images), and click the image you want. The image is added to the slide and saved to My Images automatically. You must be in Create mode to add images. Classroom plan users do not have access to the Free Images library. All images available through Powtoon's built-in libraries are license-free. To set an image as the slide background, use the background icon on the thumbnail rather than placing it as a stage object.
