Powtoon Capture lets you record your screen, with voice narration optional. This article walks you through the full process, from launching the extension to sharing or editing your finished recording.
Before you start
Make sure both of the following are in place before you begin:
- You have downloaded and installed the Powtoon Capture extension.
- Your microphone is enabled in Chrome (required if you plan to record voice).
Note: Full HD (1080p) resolution is available to paid subscribers only. Free accounts are limited to lower resolution options.
How to record your screen only
To record your screen using Powtoon Capture, follow these steps:
- Open Chrome and click the Powtoon Capture extension icon in the Chrome toolbar to launch the Capture panel.
- In the Capture panel, select Screen Only.
- If you want to include voice narration, toggle your microphone on. If you prefer a silent screen recording, leave the microphone toggled off.
- Click Video and select your preferred resolution from the available options.
► Full HD (1080p) is available to paid subscribers only. - Click Record.
- Choose what you want to record: your entire screen, a specific application that is currently running, or a specific Chrome tab.
- Click Share to confirm your selection. A five-second countdown will begin.
- When the countdown ends, begin your screen recording.
► To cancel the recording and start again, click the cancel button in the Capture control menu before the countdown ends. - When you are done, click Stop sharing in the browser bar.
► You can also click the stop button in the Capture control menu to end the recording.
What happens after you stop recording
After you stop the recording, Powtoon Capture processes the file and opens it in the Powtoon player page. From there, you can:
- Share the recording directly to social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn) using the share icons on the right side of the page.
- Send the player page link by email using the email icon.
- Copy the player page URL using the copy link icon.
- Open and edit your recording in Powtoon Studio.
- Export your recording as a video file.
Your Capture is also saved automatically in your Workspace so you can access it later.
Note: A Capture longer than three minutes cannot be edited in Powtoon Studio. Recordings over this length can still be shared and exported, but Studio editing is not available for them.
