The timeline is a visual representation of the timing of all objects on a slide. It lets you control when each object appears in relation to the others. This article covers each timeline control and what it does.

The playhead
The playhead is the vertical marker on the timeline that shows your current position in the slide. You use it to insert an object at a specific moment and to preview the slide at that point in time.
To move the playhead, drag it left or right along the timeline, or click any point on the timeline to jump the playhead directly to that time.
Time indicator
The time indicator displays two pieces of timing information at once.
- The time shown in blue is the playhead's current position relative to the entire Powtoon. For example, 00:04:00 means the playhead is 4 seconds from the start of the Powtoon.
- The time shown in black is the total duration of the entire Powtoon. For example, 0:53 means the Powtoon is 53 seconds long.
Play slide button
The play slide button plays only the active slide from beginning to end. Use this to preview a single slide without playing the full Powtoon.
Play button
The play button plays the Powtoon from the playhead's current position through to the end. Use this to preview your Powtoon from any point mid-way through.
Slide duration controls
The + and − buttons let you adjust the duration of the active slide in one-second increments.
- Click + to add one second to the slide. The second is added at the playhead's current position on the timeline.
- Click − to remove one second from the slide. The second is removed from the playhead's current position on the timeline.
Note: By default, each slide in a Powtoon is 10 seconds long. See Changing the Duration of a Slide for more information.
Playhead locator
The playhead locator button scrolls the timeline view to wherever the playhead is currently positioned. This button appears only when the timeline is long enough that the playhead has scrolled out of view. Click it to jump the visible timeline area back to the playhead's location.
