Powtoon does not have a dedicated zoom-out feature, but you can simulate a zoom-out effect on any object using the A to B animation setting. The steps below walk you through the workaround.
Note: This article uses an image as the example object, but the same steps apply to any object you can place on a slide — except text.
How to create a zoom-out effect on an object
- On your slide, select the object you want to zoom out from.
- Click the Settings gear icon that appears above the selected object.
- In the pop-up menu, click A to B. A duplicate of the object is added to the front of the slide. The duplicate is now selected.
- Click Switch between A & B to deselect the duplicate and select the original object.
- Drag a corner handle of the original object to enlarge it so it is proportionately larger than the duplicate.
- ► As you enlarge the original, you may need to drag it partially off-stage so you can reach its corner handles. You can also move the duplicate to the right side of the slide temporarily to give yourself more room to work.
- Position the enlarged original object so its center point aligns with the center of the slide.
- Click Switch between A & B again to select the duplicate. Drag the duplicate so it sits directly in front of the original, covering it completely. Align the duplicate's center point with the center of the slide.
- ► When both objects are centered on the slide and the duplicate sits on top of the original, the animation will play as a smooth zoom-out from the larger original to the smaller duplicate.
- Click Play slide to preview the zoom-out effect.
Note: The zoom-out animation runs for 1.5 seconds by default. See Changing the duration of an object's movement to adjust the timing.
What happens when you play the slide
When you click Play slide, Powtoon animates from the enlarged original object (position A) to the smaller duplicate (position B), producing a zoom-out effect. The transition takes 1.5 seconds by default.
How to cancel the zoom-out effect
To remove the zoom-out effect, select either object on the slide and click Cancel 'A to B' in the toolbar above the object. This removes the A to B animation and deletes the duplicate.
