A Powtoon look is a design theme that sets the visual style and tone of your Powtoon. Choosing the right look shapes how your audience experiences your content — from the characters and props available to the overall mood of the finished Powtoon.
The four Powtoon looks
There are currently four looks to choose from:
- Animation — contemporary, stylized visuals suited to energetic, modern content with dynamic backdrops.
- Video — a cleaner, more formal style that works well for corporate or image-led Powtoons.
- Whiteboard — a hand-drawn style ideal for breaking down complex ideas into clear, engaging content.
- Cartoon — expressive characters that connect emotionally with your audience; well suited to storytelling or presenting serious topics in an approachable way.
Which look should you choose?
Each look is designed for a different purpose. Use the descriptions below to match a look to your content goal.
Choose Animation if you want a contemporary feel with stylized characters and modern settings. Choose Video if your Powtoon is more formal or corporate and relies heavily on images rather than animated characters. Choose Whiteboard if you need to simplify complex information and guide your audience through ideas step by step. Choose Cartoon if emotional connection matters — this look uses expressive characters that audiences can identify with, and it handles serious subject matter in a non-threatening way.
How looks work
To maintain visual consistency, each look includes characters, props, shapes, and other objects designed specifically for that look. This means the assets available to you in Powtoon Studio will match the look you have selected, keeping your Powtoon coherent from start to finish.
Changing the look of an existing Powtoon
You can change the look of a Powtoon at any time after you have created it.
- Open your Powtoon in Powtoon Studio and confirm you are working in Create mode.
- Click the triangle (dropdown arrow) next to the name of the current look, displayed in the top toolbar.
- A page showing all four looks will open. Select the look you want to switch to.
Note: Switching looks changes the asset library available to you. Objects already placed on your stage that belong to the previous look may not match the new look's style. Review your slides after switching to check for consistency.
