Powtoon includes a large library of templates, but sometimes you want to build from a blank canvas — especially when you have a specific idea or storyboard in mind. This article walks you through creating a Powtoon from scratch, from opening a blank stage to exporting your finished Powtoon.
Before you begin
You need an active Powtoon account to follow these steps. No specific subscription tier is required to create a Powtoon from scratch, but some content and features inside Powtoon Studio may be limited depending on your plan.
Creating a Powtoon from scratch
To create a new Powtoon starting from a blank canvas, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Powtoon account and go to your Workspace.
- In the side panel, click Blank.
- Select the aspect ratio that best fits the Powtoon you want to create.
► Common options include widescreen (16:9) for presentations and square for social media. See the aspect ratio article for guidance on which to choose. - Powtoon Studio opens with a blank stage. Use the tools and content available in Powtoon Studio to build your Powtoon.
- When you have finished, export your Powtoon to your preferred format. See Exporting and Publishing Your Powtoon for more information.
Note: If you would rather start from a pre-built layout, see templates for more information.
